Ok heres the deal. i bought a macbook from someone offline. When I got it they never remformated it or anything. There password and account is still up and I can't get in. I tried getting ahold of the buyer but to no avail. I got some install disks of mac os x panther but I don't know how to even attempt to remformat from the disc or anything. This is my first macbook and I am kinda new help me out please.

You cannot reset the password with OS discs older or newer than the version currently on the system. If you cannot get them from the original owner, you can request replacement discs (2) from AppleCare for $16 a pop if you give the agent the computer serial number. Once you have the discs you can follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274 to reset the administrator password.
