locked screen - came back and computer won't unlock

this has happened a few times in recent weeks. I lock the screen on my MBP (mid 2009) and go do something for a few minutes. When I come back, the computer won't come back on. I have to hold down the power button for ~10 seconds and shut the computer down hard and then power it back on. What the heck is going on here?

Is the screen just staying black? Is that what you are meaning?

It's a mid-2009 MBP. The screen just stays black.

I don't know if it applies to newer machines, but I had the same problem with my iBook, I reset the PMU, and it wakes up just fine now.

Seems it might be a GPU or logic board issue.

Try resetting your PRAM & SMC
