How can lock specific folders to prevent people from accessing them? Our computer only has one user so I think I need a third party program to password protect folders is this true? Advice please!

If you have one User account an multiple people using it, I would create a disk image in Disk utility, password protect it and use that.

The other way would be to make a "generic" user for everybody else and keep yourself as the admin. That way you can specify any or all folders for use by others, including apps, documents, etc.
