I know this has been hashed and rehashed. I have always known that the iPhone puts a lock on pop email account such that you typically can't check your mail within about a 15 minute period from another device/computer. I have read posts that it is how pop works, but that isn't all that true - I can check my email on my Windows laptop using Outlook Express and then immediately check it on my iMac without issues.

But...

My email account is setup as an iMAP account on the iphone, which negates the pop lock theory. And... I found tonight that as soon as I power off my iPhone, the lock is released?! That action definitely implies the phone is holding the account open.

I have my account configured as a manual fetch on my phone ( in theory it should only retrieve mail when I tell it ), but I am now wondering if multitasking is keeping mail open in the background and thus keeping the account locked?

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
