Logging into my iMac problem

My wireless keyboard batteries died. I replaced them and when I wake my iMac using the mouse I cannot enter my password. Pressing keys on the keyboard don't show in the password field. I have Mavericks installed. Just started using Keychain so I had to change security. In the past I never had to enter a password to use my iMac. Any suggestions? Thanks
