Hi everyone,

Please bear with me, I'm not an expert. I've got a 2015 MBP retina that has a dead logic board. It's way too expensive to replace the board, so I extracted the SSD. I'd like to know if anyone knows what type of USB cable(s)/connector/case I would need in order to externally attach the SSD to another MPB or PC so I can get my data off of it. I've been looking around, and it seems that they are very specific about what connectors work. The SSD I have is a Samsung mz-kpv1t00 1tb. The model number on the MBP is A1398. Mid 2015.
I'm also not sure if just connecting the SSD to a USB cable and then connecting it to a computer will even work properly. From the reading I've been doing, some people suggest te need for an enclosure. It's just unclear to me what precisely I should do for my specific SSD/system.

I hope this makes sense enough, thank you for any help!

You will need an enclosure, but they're $10 or less. Look up a local computer store (doesn't need to be Mac-specific), and take the drive in. They'll have an enclosure and will probably put the drive in it if you ask them. The enclosure will have the USB ports you need, and you'll be able to plug the drive into another computer.

That Samsung drive is an SSUBX and enclosures for those are closer to $100 than $10.

You can either borrow another MBP/MBA of the same period (2013-15) and use that in target mode or something like an OWC Envoy Pro case will house it to use as a USB 3.0 drive.
