Logic/garageband Not Playing Back Audio. Help Needed Urgently!!!!!

Dear all,

I have come across a problem in both logic and garageband. When I record into garageband or logic with a mic, the sound-waves comes up and it appears to be fine, but then when i play it back - silence.

I have tried switching between mono and stereo but still the same result. When I try to do anything else like record from USB keyboard the playback is fine.

I tried to record with the iSight mic and it played back fine. So i thought it must be to do with the mic but it seems to be wired up properly and it records fine. It is just the playback.

Please help!
