Apple today updated its professional-grade audio software Logic Pro X to version 10.0.4, adding support for project files generated by the new version of GarageBand released yesterday.

Logic Pro X, launched in July, represented the first major update to the software since 2009. Logic Pro X introduced "Drummer" a customizable virtual session player that automatically plays along to recorded tracks. Drummer made its way to Apple's consumer-level GarageBand in yesterday's launch, with one drummer included free of charge and a set of 14 additional drummers with various styles available for $4.99 as an in-app purchase.

Logic Pro X is available for $199.99 in the Mac App Store. [Direct Link]

Garageband has always been Logic Pro with some things taken out

I'm not sure if this is meant as an insult to Logic Pro, or a compliment for GarageBand. :D

My $0.02: of all the music programs I've used, LP is undoubtably the best for MIDI & VSTs (AKA Audio Units). Pro Tools is the one to go for if you're mainly doing audio editing. And Cubase is the one to go to if you want a program that keeps crashing. ;) :apple:

Release notes. Probably more fixed than what's listed, seems like that's usually the case.

Logic Pro X 10.0.4 update
Includes a change that allows Logic to properly open GarageBand X projects.
Fixes an issue in which the Mixer might flicker when scrolling up or down in OS X Mavericks v10.9.
Resolves an issue in which EXS instruments created with third-party applications might exhibit unexpected voice "stealing" when played in Logic Pro X.
Resolves an issue in which the Tuner did not display correctly on Retina Displays with OS X Mavericks v10.9.
Fixes an issue in which Logic Pro X did not correctly display track icons in projects imported from GarageBand 2 for iOS.

It could really have done with more bug fixes, instead of more Garagebandification..

[edit] Actually.. (Touch wood) the really annoying CPU spikes and thus audio glitches I was getting seem to have gone. Its not a listed fix however.
On the other hand, There are still some very easy ways to get it to crash completely. Which sucks.

For some reason, I can't update my previous GarageBand, It says that it's not available in the US. But I still can download the new one but I don't know if it should be like that

On the next GarageBand update I would like to have Chad Smith as a virtual drummer Apple! :D

Similar to guitar amp software with Slash & Hendrix signature sounds, it would be interesting if they started offering real drummers as In App Purchases. The Steven Adler style slider could go from "sober" to "wrecked".

I wonder if they do this kind of stuff for the gateway drug effect as well...

iMovie = Final Cut Pro X

Photoshop Elements = Photoshop

Garage Band = Logic Pro X

Yes, that's how it works. You will end up with the new Garageband and a folder with the old Garageband in it. But it's all free.

I really like the interface of Logic X (and by extension Garageband). However, I have lots of virtual instruments that are 32bit and won't load, so I am keeping Logic Pro 9 side-by-side with X for those times where I need those plugins, at least until they are updated to 64bit.

Has the unfreeze bug been fixed where undo actions will unfreeze frozen tracks?

The update doesn't show for me. It shows Mavericks, iTunes and iMovie & iPhoto (both incompatible till I've installed mavericks), but..no Logic X 10.0.4.

I believe there's some kind of 32 to 64 wrapper available now to get stuff working in X but I can't remember its name. I'm fortunate that everything I use a lot is already 64bit
