Bought in February 2025 and set up with my Apple ID credentials (Protonmail email account (Email #1)). Single user laptop.

I use web-based email and do not use the Mail App on this computer.

I noticed today that my login from the locked screen lists a different Protonmail account (Email #2) that is unrelated to my Apple ID or Personal Information on this laptop. No idea how long this has been happening. Password unaffected.

No idea how this laptop even knows Email #2. Again, I only access email accounts on the web (using Firefox). Of course, I have an iPhone, but this too only has Email #1. Do have Protonmail App on the iPhone, but only with Email #1.

Have an older iPad, MacBook Pro, etc. But all of these run off of Email #1. Email #2 has never been associated with any of my tech.

Apple Intelligence is turned off.

How can I determine the source for Email #2? I have combed settings relentlessly and see nothing. Appreciate the help.

Go in to your Apple Account settings (in your System Settings app) and make sure the correct email address is listed under the Sign-in & Security tab.
Is your email listed first, and is the "different" email #2 also listed there?
If it is an email that you absolutely have never used for anythiing, and you don't expect to use it, ever, and you don't know anything about how it might have been added to your Apple Account settings, then you could simply select that unknown email address, and click the (-) on the left to remove it easily. You may need to provide permission to delete it, probably your normal admin password, but in this case, might be your Apple Account password. If that "unknown" email address has CHANGED your Apple Account name (and therefore listed first), then you may have other challenges, and you might even need to reset your current Apple Account.
Do you use this same Apple Account on any OTHER Macs, including iPhones and other devices? You said that you have other Macs and devices, so I think it would be a good plan to CHECK Apple ID, or Apple Account settings, just to make sure the Email #2 is NOT listed in those settings on other Macs. (I suspect you will find others, and that might help you to know where that odd Email #2 came from.

Thanks for the response. It was not listed under my Apple Account on this device or any of the others.

Interestingly, it has now stopped surfacing. I restarted yesterday and it still surfaced, but when I logged in today, it did not.

We'll see how this goes. I'll post again if it recurs.

Where exactly are you seeing this? I don't think I've ever seen my Mac's login screen show my email address or Apple Account.
