I am currently in the process of setting up a guest account on my MacBook for students. Unfortunately I can not find a way to automatically launch an application on startup, which is required.

A personal account could make use of a login item, afaik. Yet, in my environment I can not setup individual accounts for all my students on that personal machine.

Do you know of any solution?

My understanding is that a Guest account does not have a permanent content, it gets deleted on log out, so you can not create a launch agent for that type of account. You could create a launch agent in /Library/LaunchAgents/ that will launch an app at log in for everyone, administrator, regular user or guest.

@Halbertus ,

Instead of enabling the guest account for your students, I think it is best if you create a "Sharing Only" account so that you set which application you want to start automatically on the account at the same time have control on what folders your students can only access. You may check the article below.
