Login Screen 1/4 size

Today my login screen showed up 1/4 size and in the upper-left quadrant. The desktop was fine once logging in. Repeated and login screen still 1/4 size. Rebooting fixed it.

Why does this happen, and does it signify anything seriously wrong?

I've heard of this on jailbroken iOS devices.

Probably display drivers not "kicking in".
Repair your permissions and see if it comes back. Also you could post your logs for the system startup when it happened.

I rebooted and the issue went away. And my iMac isn't jailbroken, although it is "Lioned", which has caused all sorts of quirky behavior.
