Logitech has launched a version of its Combo Touch Keyboard for Apple's 4th-generation iPad Air, offering a more affordable alternative to Apple's Magic Keyboard.

Priced at $199.99, which is $100 cheaper than the Magic Keyboard for the 10.9-inch iPad Air, Logitech's Combo Touch Keyboard provides a full folio case with attached keyboard and touchpad.

Like the version already available for Apple's latest iPad Pro models, the keyboard is detachable and an integrated stand allows it to be used in various typing, viewing, sketching, and reading modes.

It connects to an ‌iPad Air‌ using the Smart Connector, so there's no need for pairing or charging a battery. It also features backlit keys, iPadOS shortcut keys, and space at the top for storing and charging an Apple Pencil (2nd generation), which attaches magnetically to the iPad.

Logitech's Combo Touch for the 4th-gen iPar Air comes in gray, and the company is also now offering a new "sand" color option for the iPad Pro (5th gen) version of the keyboard case.

The Logitech Combo Touch for the 4th-gen iPad Air and the new color for the iPad Pro version are available to pre-order from the Logitech website. Both products start shipping next month.

I have the older 11 inch iPad Pro version and can generally recommend it.

- Keyboard is still pretty good, but not as good as the Apple keyboards in terms of stability.
- Keyboard shortcuts & backlight (assuming this one has it too) are great.
- Trackpad is good, they fixed the issue where the previous trackpad couldn't be clicked at the "top".
- My main gripe is it's so bulky - it's as thick as an AirPods Pro case and it seems like they didn't change that.
- Kickstand is fine, but as with any kickstand it's a bit annoying if you want to use the iPad on your lap.

EDIT: Watched a video and they did apparently make the back shell a bit thinner.

I have the newest Logitech Combo Touch for iPad Pro 11". Great piece of hardware. The back shell in fact is less bulky than in previous gen which is welcome addition and makes usage without keyboard pleasant. And yes, the keyboard detaches! This is the best addition as I can use iPad without keyboard and keep the stand and protection. This one feature makes it better than Magic Keyboard. Unfortunately when closed with the keyboard it is still bulky and heavy. When placed on desk, the stand takes too much space behind the iPad making it also impossible to use on a lap unless you are 7ft tall. In my country (PL) I could order it only via Apple Store and it shipped with UK keyboard instead of international which is bad but just a bit. On the upside the fabric is pretty and pleasant to touch.

PS. It also still fits in the Peak Design Sling 6L.

Not quite the same product, as per the article... "the keyboard is detachable"
On the one you posted, it is fixed on.
I have had both and definitely prefer the fixed on one. The detachable one can get annoying as it detaches when you don't want to... definitely not an upgrade.

Agree with all this. It stood me in good stead when the battery on my MacBook become so poor I could barely have it unplugged and was a cheap solution for making my iPad into a very rudimentary laptop, but I had a lot of frustrations with it and sold it when I bought a new MacBook Air as I didn't expect to ever use it again. Added so much bulk to my iPad Air (3rd gen) that it was like getting a new device when I took it out.

I find it to be significantly better than the Smart Keyboard folio on my 2021 11 inch Pro. It doesn’t weigh as much as some say, could be due to the fact the older model of it weighed more. It’s great having a detachable keyboard. And i find it easier to use on my lap than the Smart Keyboard folio was.

Appreciate you sharing your perspective. Thanks, I may end up getting this.

I have the previous version they made for the iPad Air and my biggest complaint is that the keyboard wasn't detachable, which made the device really heavy for every day use even if you didn't want to use the keyboard.

Now they got rid of that issue.

Take my money.

I have the exact same feelings. Tempted.

I would recommend it a bit more knowing that they did address most of the issues I mentioned (it still seems a bit thick, but still).

I have this for the iPad pro with the original pencil – which has the pencil holder. I throw it in my bag and the pencil stays together. It's great because you can remove the keyboard, which saves space and power, really good for just watching a film. But this is only relying on the magnet to hold the pencil on, they should've made a strap or a place to store it. Sounds like a downgrade in that department.

EDIT: didn't realize this was a new version with a detachable keyboard, cool! Have to take another look, though I'm not planning to switch from my current solution now

Having tried this out, hated it because unlike the case they have for, say, the 8th gen ipad, can't use easily without the keyboard. I suspect that has to do with the placement of the smart connector, but it sucks. I ended up with the magic keyboard and love it a lot more, pricey but worth it

I am typing this response on the iPP version and agree with your comments. I wish Logitech would sell (even separately) a non-keyboard “flap” that could be used in situations where only a case is needed. Perhaps the flap could even have a magnetic wrap to hold the Apple Pencil when closed.

Finally, an iPad that can run MacOS and compete with a Surface.

HAHA just kidding says Apple.

I have to use a Surface for work. It's an absolute shame that Apple won't make a MacOS tablet. Might be a hell of a machine, but I can't use an iPad for work. Grow up and put a real OS on your tablet, Apple.

This case is shipping earlier than July although not by much. Ordered it today from Best Buy as a pre-order and then got notified 3 hours later it has shipped.

Has anyone on the forums gone from an Magic Keyboard folio to the Logitech Combo for a 12.9” iPad? If so does the Combo give a more laptop like experience? I’m thinking the larger trackpad, and the FN keys would bring the iPad a little closer to a laptop’s functionality.

I don’t get out much these days, but as I sit in this coffee shop I’m finding the MK not giving me the experience I’d like to have. My biggest issue I think is the small trackpad, as I find myself curving my wrist so I can access the trackpad with my index finger.

I’ve also considered buying an Apple mouse. As this might be easier and faster to navigate on screen than the small trackpad of the MK.
