I've been using this mouse for some time now, on the same unfinished-style pine surface. It worked beautifully for several months, but is now acting erratic. Oddly enough, it will now only read on about a 8 inch by 8 inch square of the surface, and even them it skips and stutters. I always try to keep the surface and the mouse as clean and dust free as possible.

If I place it on any other surface (white paper, paper grocery bag, contruction paper, other wooden table (nearly identical to the one I use at my desk)) or if I try to move it away from the 8 inch by eight inch square that it kinda likes, it just stops dead.

So frustrating. Am on a tight budget, especially since I just bought the new iMac 21.5 base model (ship faster, please!) and ordered the trackpad instead of the silly magic mouse (horrible for gaming and video/photo editing.)

Any thoughts?
