Logitech MX5000 Not Syncing

I pulled out my old bluetooth Logitech MX5000 keyboard and MX1000 mouse to see if it would work with my 2010 13" Macbook Pro. It's seems to work pretty well if I use the Logitech USB dongle, but the keyboard won't sync without the dongle. The mouse works fine either way. I'd rather not have to use the dongle for the keyboard. Has anyone found a way to get it work?
