Logitech Z-5500 set up

So my current setup: I use a jack to jack cable on the control panel on the side there is a headphone output and an output with a soundnote on it...so the jack to jack is inside the soundnote thing...that is extended with jack extender and that goes to my audio output. I have the last Macbook (just macbook) and question is that do i lose audio quality or anything, im almost sure that i do but i havent found another topic with the same setup so im just guessing. I already found out that a Toslink adapter would be the best solution, i just wanted to know that how stupid my setup is? Thanks

i didn't ask correctly.. i want to know that my setup would be better if i would change to toslink or it would be as good as now considering that i havent found another setup like this i cant answer this question for myself
