Read a few reviews about these speakers: seem a good buy and they are also 5.1...only used 2.1 so far. How will these work with my iMac G5? Do I not need some kind of 5.1 box so the iMac can tell the box what channel to put the sound through?

They are an excellent buy. If you already have an optical cable all you need is this. If you don't have an optical cable I would get something like this because you get the adapter and the optical cable together. Make sure when you buy the 5500's you look around because Amazon and a few other sites have them for $220 while Logitech was selling them for $400 last time I checked. Also if you game and have a PS2 or XBOX near your setup I would recommend this as well. That way you can have your console and iMac hooked up at the same time and you would only need to change the input in order to switch between either one.
