While looking at an old Death Cab for Cutie album (The Photo Album), I scrolled to the bottom.

It says "Copyright 2001 Fake Songs(BMI), Please Pass the Songs(BMI), Shove It Up Your (BMI)"

Hmm - someone testing something somewhere that made it to the public?

You must not listen to much music then if you have never heard of The Postal Service.

death cab for a cutie i can see, but...

You probably know one of the side projects: The Postal Service.

i find it ironic that ups used a postal service song in at least one of their ads :D (not that the postal service has anything in common with the USPS, other than the name).

cheers.

Oh so I see from another post that they are emo, that explains why I never heard of them. I listen to Goth, Metal, rock, and Country. Everything from Skinny Puppy to Johnny Cash. I don't touch emo or rap.

Actually, the USPS sued The Postal Service over their name.
As a settlement, the band must include an insert in all their albums endorsing the USPS and once a year play a free concert for USPS employees.
Crazy, but true.

Oh, and the misconceptions people have about "emo" music still cracks me up.

What's even funnier is the result when you type "Pornosonic" into the iTunes WiFi search field.

Enjoy and laugh.

Oh source that. "The postal service" is a common noun phrase. Even if it is a registered trademark or service mark of the USPS, I doubt it's enforceable. The Post Office, maybe. But not The Postal Service. Then there's the whole problem of enforcing trademarks when used as titles in creative endeavors. The Ataris. The B-52s. U2. I could on, but it's too early and I should go make coffee.

Do agree with you about The Postal Service, or even DCFC not being emo, though. TPS? Emo? Ha!

jbaker is actually right about the postal service/usps connection. look it up on your own.

Not everyone is 22.
Ouch
Hey! I'm 40 and Love Death Cab and Postal Service...
I second that. Well except I'm not 40. ;)

I have found it to be a great excuse for not knowing about some relatively up to date music. It's easier to say "I don't do emo" than it is to say "I confused and I don't know who they are." Even if you don't like Death Cab you should check out The Postal Service. If anything it should cater to those not willing to listen to Death Cab because God forbid it'd be considered emo!

The connection between USPS and the band is also true as someone pointed out. Because Google is my second favorite thing on the net. :)

Saying "Not everyone is 22" was merely to counter the ridiculousness of "You must not listen to much music then if you have never heard of The Postal Service."

I know plenty of people who listen to plenty of music who have never heard of TPS.

For the record, I have heard them, and don't really dig them. I am 39.

Not that anyone cares, but my favorite modern bands/DJs/rappers these days, in no particular order are...

Elbow
Matt Pond PA
Bent
Devin The Dude
Kanye
RJD2
Rogue Wave
Consequence
The Thrills
Ambulance LTD
Spoon
Lupe Fiasco
The Raconteurs
José González

If you haven't heard of any of these, you must not listen to much music. ;)

The Postal Service is bad. They hand pick the most annoying synth sounds that should have died with the Atari.

The Thrills are good, however.
