I wish there was a way to make this notice available to all I phone 4 users everywhere interested in this situation. I'm sure there are some very computer literate people out there that already knew this but after seeing a post elsewhere with some wrong info I though I would share.

I noticed the update available for the iphon4 and decided I wanted some of the features, especially the airprint. I did not notice any disclaimers that only certain wireless printers could be used. If there was info I missed it. (When I purchased my MacBook Pro 13 inch I was told by the Apple sales person my printer would be wonderful for wireless printing, HA. But that's a whole other story).

I looked up which HP printers would have wireless. Found one I like at a price I was willing to pay at at well known local office supply super store. And went to buy it. The sales person also said I needed ink, so I got that too. Setting it up was very difficult. Half the time my new printer would show up in the list and half the time it wouldn't.

I called tech support and they tried and finally we thought we had succeeded. I could print wire free from my laptop to the printer. After hanging up I tried to print from my iphone 4 to the printer....NOOO!

By this time I was too tired to deal with it and hit it again in the am. After some more research online I found a post somewhere that said only CERTAIN wireless printers would airprint from phone. Uh, oh. Certain ones were listed, I looked the up and I was a bit disappointed with the features for the pricing but I really wanted to print from my iphone so I took back everything I bought. I was getting confused as to which of the only 4 available I wanted so I went outside to think and decided to call either HP or Apple, can't remember now. Anyway, very nice person helped to do some research on the three I had narrowed it down to. The envy, the hp photosmart premium fax e, and the hp photosmart premium e.

This is the coolest part. At the end of the conversation he suggested I call a local big box specialist of computer electronics to ck out the item more fully. I did and they were having a huge sale....$100 off the model I picked. The store I was at matched the price. With the return of the extra ink and the saving I came out WAYYYYY ahead.

The next neat thing is that I decided I would have hand holding help setting it up via tech support. Perfect.

Hung up. Almost all worked great. Still could not find my printer on my iphone 4. I called either Apple or HP can't remember sorry. And they said no problem. They would get it working. For a moment I became concerned because I remembered seeing in that other post that you had to have a 17 inch MacBook Pro. Wrong! works fine with 13 inch thank goodness. I guess a rumors forum is the perfect place for this post.

In closing, phone support great all the way around and everything is beautiful. I did mention to Apple it was terrible that they don't list requirements plainly for airprint. Although they the do on the Ipad page...go figure.

I hope this helps somebody else.

So which printer did you get? That would be useful.

Glad you got it sorted but you're going to kick yourself. For $6, you can buy Printopia. It lets you wirelessly print from any network shared printer (an option box to tick, on every Mac).

After all that , sorry!

The HP PHOTOSMART PREMIUM FAX E-ALL IN-ONE....Saved so much money for the featrues, I'm in love.

And the lower price was from Best Buy and Office Depot matched it without me even asking.

Oy vey. Well the iphone was the big problem. The airprint was free, lol. I can always use an excuse for a new piece of computer equipment. I was going to have to replace my old HP psc 2410 photosmart one of these days any way. And in the end I did get a REALLY great deal.
