What kind of food do you recommend that can last for several months to store?

Where do you buy it?

No matter what you get, it only lasts so long, and it's easy to forget to rotate it. A good plan would be to get in the habit of, every month, making a point of using however much of your stores you're inclined to (up to a month's worth, of course), then donating the rest of that month to a local food closet organization and replacing it. That way food doesn't go to waste, you're prepared for the apocalypse and you're doing some good in your community in the meantime.

If you really want to get some food that lasts a while, try some MREs. (Meals Ready to Eat...two lies in one!) You can often pick up some at a military surplus store, or on eBay. I won't comment on how they taste.

Don't worry about the peanuts in the MREs coming from peanut corporation, since they are likely recalled in the retail stores and unlikely to be recalled in these MREs -- just stock up on TP. :p

Can always get Ramen noodles and vitamins.

Eww, Ramen noodles. You're making me have flashbacks to my college days. :D

You actually don't need to worry about the peanuts in MREs being some of the recalled types, since the MREs were probably made about 5 years ago. :) I had a friend who was doing some training in the early 2000s. He opened a pack of M&Ms in the MRE pack, and noticed they were commerative M&Ms...from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

You can get the food you find in lifeboats on ships, they're like glucose biscuits and each contain 2500 calories. They come in an airtight bag and last around 5 years. Taste like s**te but you will live :)
