Hi

Ive had my ipad just over a week from tesco its a white 3G 32gb and while i love what it does the hardware isnt living upto much the negitives for me:

  • Screen bleed
  • Washed out video
  • Slow smeary response time of screen
  • Faint Yellow fringe down 2 sides of of the lcd
  • Spongey lose bezel near home button i can actual push the smaller one under the glass!

And while the white version is nice its not very practical:
  • Outside its like a halo
  • And muck gets traped between the white plastic band and the glass i have to scrape it out!

I know the first list is hardware faults ive even had random reboots on the thing will apple swap this out for a black version? and one hopefuly that works?

Just at the moment all these flaws are ruinin it for me!

sell it you wont have a restocking fee, but don't think the zoom is the answer its worse.

There's definitely something wrong with yours! Return it! The longer I use the iPad the happier I get

I agree with dru106, you have a defective unit, return it.

By the way, I have the white iPad 2 also and have no problem with the color of the bezel. It is a personal choice though.

A. Stop reading macrumors. Most of the problems you mention would never have occurred to you had you not looked for them after reading OCD posts here.

B. Wash your hands more often. There's no reason for "muck" around the bezel beyond bad hygiene.

C. The white bezel is definitely not ideal outdoors. If you don't like it, swap it for a black one. It will show less muck too, if you are soap challenged.

1. Replace it from apple with a one that's not defective.

2. Sell non defective.

3. Buy black one.

Don't lose your hair over it.

You may have some bleed. But other than that, nothing is innate about the ipad 2. My wife works for a high end photography/video studio and they did a bunch of advanced calibrations of the screens, and compared the 1 and 2. The 2 screen has about 25% more contrast and more defined, separate colors than the 1, according to their reviews.

Screen response time is equal or greater to ipad1, and in many cases should feel faster due to the faster processing times (which is perceived only).

I disgree, after years of black bezels the white one shows fewer fingerprints and oil outdoors. Infact, in looking at the screen the only place I don't see those things is on the white bezel.

Xoom is worse?

Really?

I don't have any issues with:
Screen bleed
Washed out video
Slow smeary response time of screen
Faint Yellow fringe down 2 sides of of the lcd
Spongey lose bezel near home button i can actual push the smaller one under the glass!
Outside its like a halo
And muck gets traped between the white plastic band and the glass i have to scrape it out!

Please let me know how this is worse?

Let's not make this a doom vs iPad showdown

The bleed is a pity but you can swap till you find a better one. I haven't had any video problems, and I find it's faster than the original iPad (whatever "smeary" means). Yellow fringe? Rotten bezel? Run, don't walk, back to Tesco and complain. It'll be great practice for your English, too, which I rather hope is your second language...

Not making this a showdown at all. What I do have issue with is blanket statements with no qualifying data to back up ridiculous blanket statements.

I have the iPad and the Xoom. Each do some things very well. Each do some things horribly.

Too funny,and too true

You should just return it if these shortcomings continue to upset you. Life is too short to let a piece of electronics piss you off! That is what humans are here to do to you!

And especially when you spend good money on something.

Stop nit picking and take it back. Nothing is ever perfect and browsing forums only leads one to actually look for faults... Just enjoy the device.

Don't watch the news either while you're at it, because not knowing about the bad things that happen in the world means that they aren't really happening and you shouldn't have an opinion about them.

A = bury your head in the sand and don't read what people are actually experiencing with the device. Exposing yourself to reality is a terrible thing, especially when it comes to certain people who define their entire existence by the Apple products they own.

B = this advice is no better than Steve Jobs saying "don't hold it that way", except this time it's coming from someone who is a tool.

C = see above

it's not burying your head in the sand, it's ignoring the EXTREME opinions of people on here, who are not a general user, people on here are EXTREMELY nitpicky on things just for the sake of it.

A = Get a realistic perspective of the problem and not a skewed one from a place where its a known quantity that more complainers than praisers are likely to post their experiences. Some are having problems, some are extreme OCD patients in need of severe therapy, and most have no problems whatsoever. Don't put all your eggs in the basket of those who are looking for something to complain about.

B = Not even worth addressing.

C = See above.

Not sure I understand these 'unhappy' posts. Just sell it and move on. My Dell work laptop aggravates me everyday, and I don't have the option of selling. However, I'm not on the Dell forum telling strangers why I hate the machine. You must have a large amount of disposable time on your hands.

Blah blah blah.

A. How does reading about backlight bleed on a internet forum help anyone? If you notice it and it's a problem for you, you call Apple and arrange for a repair or exchange, or a return/refund. Period. No Macrumors reading involved.

If you don't notice it, then it's not a problem for you. But if you come here and read about it, and THEN notice it, and THEN it becomes a problem for you, then you may as well have your head in the sand anyway, because you're certainly not using it yourself.

B. Funny how the first person to resort to name calling so closely resembles the name being called.

C. See blah blah blah.

The only reality that matters is one's owns experience.

Just use a device for a while and see how you like it. If you notice flaws exchange or return it.

Otherwise, what's the point of being upset over flaws if you never notice them in your own usage of a device but only after reading about them on a forum and going out of your way to notice them?

And you've extensively tested your white bazel for two weeks?
