Looks like the current rumor on the net tonight is that the official name for Windows "Longhorn" is Windows Vista.

Who is coming up with these inconsistent-as-hell naming schemes up there? Windows ME proceeded Windows 98, Windows 2000 proceeded Windows NT. Windows XP proceeded both ME and 2000 and then came Windows XP.

Now Windows Vista?? I hope this is just a rumor for Microsoft's sake, because that name just isn't happening.

I always though Longhorn was the official name....?

Why didn't Microsoft stick with the year in their naming? Like Windows 95, 98, 2000, etc? It would be more constant and logical, IMO. Course the way they keep changing Lonhorn's release date, I guess it wouldn't work well ;)

You've terribly confused. Windows XP followed Windows 2000 followed Windows NT. Windows Me followed Windows 98 followed Windows 95. The definition of proceed can be found here.
