on windows 7, this happened across a couple different devices (4S, 5) but i have this issue where if i charge up the iphone to 100% for a while--the next sync will fail--it will stall at preparing to sync or waiting for.
if i disconnect religiously and replug it will work for 1-2 syncs.
it could be of my large app list (i have 3000+ apps) 300+ of which i load onto the phone at a time and sync.
when it fails sync (usually after meticulously grouping apps i want to sync) and i disconnect/replug the next sync will be a straight sync of all the apps without the grouping.
this has bothered me for years, across different windows 7 pcs, and different iphones/ipads.
