I've been in the market for an MBP, but just been searching around. Not a Mac question, but I figured somebody here might be able to explain. But can anyone figure out why this laptop is 2 grand? I saw it on best buy and it's got a 256gb SATA HD. Only intel 3000 graphics. 13inches. 6g of ram. Core i7 an no ODD. http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=3006306&pid=1218370888166&catId=abcat0502000&ev=prodView#product-overview

This seems way to overpriced, I don't understand at ALLL haha. It's their most expensive non apple laptop.

Edit: this link might work better. The first link is a mobile link. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor+/+13.3%26%2334%3B+Display+/+6GB+Memory/3006306.p?id=1218370888166&skuId=3006306

You're wondering what justifies the price?

Well, from what I've heard, seen and read, the 900x3a has a fantastic matte screen (even though the resolution is a bit low, but heck, its the same as the MBP13), which makes it a joy to use outdoors. The build quality otherwise is also top notch with a duraluminum casing.

The performance is comparable to the high-end MBA13, long battery life, very good keyboard and trackpad (trackpad not quite up to Macbook-standards, but its pretty damn good) and dont forget that 256GB SSD. ;)

Its also just barely lighter than the Macbook Air and roughly just as thin.

PS: Your topic title is ridiculously misleading..

But it's not SSD. It says it's a SATA hard drive. I just don't get why such low hard drive space, and integrated graphics make up a 2k laptop

That is probably a typo from Best Buy, it should say 256GB Serial ATA SSD. The NP900X3A comes with SSD, period. ;)

As for integrated graphics, that is pretty much a physical limitation. Just look at how the Macbook Air comes with not only integrated graphics, but the RAM is even soldered onto the motherboard.. I just how it has to be in a laptop this thin and light. If you want a super thin, light ultraportable with anything else, you need to go for the much more expensive Sony Vaio Z. EDIT: It actually has integrated graphics as well, but you get a dedicated graphics card in the power media dock..

The 900X3A is probably the laptop I would get if I didnt want a Macbook. I consider the integrated graphics a good thing, as the Nvidia Optimus crap does not, and will never, fully work in Linux..

I hear the processor alone is like a third of the cost. Then you still need to pay for the Designers and Engineers.
