I have a 13" MacBook Pro (mid-2009) and I want to use an external monitor with it, most likely a 24" display. The Apple Cinema Display seems too expensive, especially since I won't be using it much for games or movies (the main use will be writing and reading text: documents, web pages, email, etc.). I'm bewildered by the vast range of monitors out there and could really use some help. My price range is $150-$300ish. Any suggestions about where to look?

One other consideration: should I try to get an external monitor that has the same resolution (or the same ratio?) as the MBP's screen (1280x800). Right now I notice that when I am working on an external monitor and then unplug and take the laptop off by itself that I have to readjust the size of all the windows so that they will work with the MBP's screen. Not terrible but mildly annoying.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Abe Z.

Dell has a large selection. I'd just recommend one that has an IPS panel.

I have a Dell U2410. It's an IPS panel. 24" 1920x1200.

I love it, it's a great monitor.

They're currently going for as little as $400 brand new, buy it now on eBay.
