I'm heading to college this august, and I need help picking which laptop I should buy. Here's what I'm looking for:
-Under $2000 dollars
-Something that'll last me quite a while
-Relatively good battery life
-Something that can handle photo/video editing well (I'm planning on using Lightroom, Logic Pro, and Final Cut with it)

If I could get something refurbished to save money I'd definitely be down with that. Any suggestions that fit my specifications?

A 2015 13" MacBook Pro (with 256gb drive) should serve you well for the next 4 years.

Solid design with plenty of ports which you'll probably need at some point.

Shop carefully and you'll have enough left over for a 27" 4k display for the dorm room.

Assuming you are looking to edit 4K videos over the life of the machine you will probably benefit from the quad core and dGPU in the 15 inch you'll be lucky to get one under $2000 unless its second hand though. Look at machines late 2013 onwards if you can for better graphics and battery life on haswell.
