I used to have a no brainer Authenticator App but it got lost with the lack of use. Lately I've come across websites that use Authenticator to verify status, but I can't figure out how to use them. I think the problem is setting them up. Anyone know of a simple one that is free to use?

iOS/iPadOS/MacOS has 2FA built into the OS now and works great and syncs across all your Apple devices. Authy is another free 2FA app that works well.

Not sure why you think it's difficult to use. Scan the QR code or enter the manual string into the app, enter the 2FA code and done. Note that not all websites will auto-fill the information so maybe that's the difficulty? If that doesn't, you can enter the code manually via copy/paste.

Both Microsoft and Google offer a free authenticator app - literally the first two results when you search the app store. Pretty simple...

Ditto Authy. And it's cross-platform, not eco-system centric.

I'd love to switch to Authy but there seems to be no easy way, like you'd do if you got a new phone.

i restored backups multiple times and had no issues with authy..
I'm sure if you're already using authy it works fine. I'm referring to switching from another authenticator, like Google's.

Authy also gets my vote. never got google to sync and backup my codes properly, and Authy also has a synced desktop app which is convenient for me when logging into work stuff.

Only one I won't recommend is googles. The reason is because it does not back up, if you have to either restore your phone, or get a new phone/replacement device, you would have you use your recovery/backup codes. It is a mess.

After a long way with Duo Security, I've switched to Authy a year ago, on the iPhone, the Pixel and the Apple Watch. (because a Duo backup on Android cannot be restored ont the iPhone).

I use the inbuilt iCloud Keychain 2FA especially as it keeps everything in the same place. Very easy to use and syncs across all devices.

I used authy for a while but noticed the accounts sometimes didn’t sync across my devices (iPad, IPhone and Mac). This made me a bit nervous in case I ended up getting locked out of an account.

I like the Microsoft Authenticator and have been using it for a few years. I had to use it for previous work but liked it enough to consolidate and moved all my Authy 2FA over. But now that I don't need to use the Microsoft authenticator, I've been trying out the built-in 2FA in Keychain and I really really like it. Will likely make a full transition.
