My HP Deskjet 812C is FUBAR, so I'm in the market for a new one. Ideally, it would be <$100, but ink cartridge price is more important since it makes up the majority of money spent on the printer. I do occasional photo printing and a medium amount of text. I'm running 10.2.4 on a dual 867. Any suggestions?

go to walmart or target. buy the HP deskjet 3320. it was like $60 or something, prints on photo paper remarkably. the performance of this is easily comparable to high-end printers 1-2 years ago.

cartridges are 1 black, 1 color, the color is included and will automatically mix black ink if you don't install a black cart... somewhat handy, but wasteful-- buy a black too. i don't remember what carts are priced like, think it's $17-25 range... not too bad...

edit: a little more specs... your printer is 600x600? dpi, this is 1200x600 (best on photo paper)... not the fastest tho, 8ppm black with black cartridge, but then when have deskjets been speedy? HP's price is $49.99, listed on their website.

Or...
find a used Epson Stylus 740 on eBay. I've been using mine for almost 4 years, and it's great. Plus, I can get two black and one color cartidge for $18.00 from www.ink4art.com . Just my 2¢

Regards,
Gus

P.S. In my opinion, stay away from Lexmark printers. I have tried about 3 different models, and they all had either compatability or printing issues. And the ink for them is expensive.

I bought a Lexmark X35 2 months ago for 70 euro. It comes with a colour and b/w cartridge. It's not very fast but I'm not a hardcore printer. Good quality though.
