Does anyone know of a really good long lasting external hard drive? I am looking for one around the 500GB area, must have a fan (I don't care how quietly it runs, but it mustn't fry it's self), and FireWire 800. I hear the fans in Lacie drives are pretty useless. Any suggestions?

I would find myself a Firewire enclosure that fits your needs, then get a 400-750 GB Seagate Barracuda to fit into that. That way you'd get the full warranty with the disk (while ready-made external drives usually comes with reduced warranty, if any).

Any suggestions for a good enclosure? I'm not finding any FW800 ones with a fan on newegg
