Im looking for an HD camcorder. My work flow is FCP/Motion/Shake/Soundtrack then to DVD studio pro, so it has to be in a format that will work with them. It must be able to be taken without a computer, so tapes are a must, but it will also be used to directly import into a computer.

And finally it has to look good.

Budget 2,000$ or less, might go up higher if I can be persuaded.

I hope you get some good input cause i'm in a similiar boat. I've been out the video game for way too long and I've completely lost touch with where to visit to find out the latest and greatest in consumer/prosumer gear. Looking to get some hardware in Oct-Dec when I plan to start back in video.

Canon HV20 and Sony HC-7 are your best bets for that price with some accessories. There are a whole bunch of threads on them. I prefer B&H PhotoVideo, but there are some other good ones out there too.

I've seen some test shots done in the 24P mode on the Canon HV20 and they look incredible for a $1000 camera.
