Sol have a system here in Greece, with Cosmote, which is the ISP. Ive had issues
with stable speeds over the last couple of months. Im billed for 100/10 speed, and
I've pretty much been around that. But lately, it fluctuates a lot. I have around 23
devices on the ISP provided ZTE 1600. It's a combo of devices with most on
2.4ghz, and a few on 5GHz. I'm in an open space, with now interference really. I
was told by a couple of people, that maybe the device wasn't capable of handling
so many devices. The thing is, it was working fine for a few hours, then all of a
sudden, the speeds would fluctuate again.

I ended up turning off the router, and just using it as a modem, and I connected it
to an old Apple AirPort Extreme I have. The speeds would sometimes go up, but
for the most part, I'm around 75down. The upload speed never changes. So I was
thinking about getting a TP Link MA single access point, but is it worth it? If the
speeds aren't where they need to be both with the ZTE, then the Apple, would it
not be something taking up bandwidth on the network?

For reference I have 7 LED sets, 2 air conditioners, a tv, ps5, Apple TV, ISP cable
box, iMac, iPhone, iPad, 2 Alexa dots, and a printer. Not everything is on at the
same time. For example, 4 LEDs are on now, my tv and ps5, but the LED are only
connected to turn on and off from the app, nothing more.

I've been on the phone with tech support 20 times, and we just can't seem to
figure it out. I'm being told by some that it's a firmware issue, others have told me
it was a switch issue, when I had a switch connected to the modem/router, but I'm
still back at 70down. And it fluctuates, it could hit the 50s at times.

The TP Link m4 looks interesting, my devices are well within the amount of
devices it supports, and the range is well above the size of my open apartment.
Would this be ok, or maybe like the TP Link Archer 1200?

Hello there!

I'm sorry that a response to you hasn't happened sooner.

Have you tried testing your download speeds via a wired connection (Ethernet into the ISP router?). Also, what would you consider a reasonable budget to provide reliable connectivity?

From your description, it sounds as though the ISP provided devices are the cause of the issue. I would recommend UniFi products (AmpliFi) to help solve your problems.

It is worth noting that your ISP connectivity is not always guaranteed, as there are variables within their service. They might over-provision your bandwidth, peak hours and contention rates might be a problem, etc.

For example, whilst I have 1,000/1,000 mbps at my house, I rarely get those speeds unless after midnight. 700/700 is more regular given the over-provisioning of the service.

I hope this helps!
