He's an amateur photographer and mainly uses Lightroom and Photoshop. I was planning to spend $1500 for a Windows laptop but BH has this 2010 MBP (New) for $1800. Is there a Mac that can do the job well for $1500 or is it worth spending $300 more for this MBP:

2.8GHz Intel Core i7
4GB (2x2GB) RAM
500GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
nVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB GPU
15.4" Antiglare High-Res Widescreen LED Backlit Display

Personally, I think if you're spending this kind of money it's not worth skimping out. I've known people to skimp out on the £90 difference between a high and low res screen, I think it's silly and they will usually regret it later down the line.

Remember, you're buying something you're probably going to keep for years. Buy to last!

What am I skimping out on?

Is that 2010 MBP I linked the cheapest one available without buying used on ebay?

No, there was a 2.4 ghz i5 2010 model, but it was only a dual core, the 2011 is a quad core. As others have suggested, if you have the extra cash get the 2011 but the 2010 Arrandales are no slouch and will get the job done.
