Hello. First - I will fully admit I signed up here JUST to ask this question. Though I may end up asking other "is there an app like this" question in the future. This is kind of a desperation move.
So I recently got a new iphone and found out that Scatterbrain, the note app I was using, doesn't exist anymore. I took pics of the important notes before switching phones and am now looking for a new note app. But what I'm finding is either way too much... or too little. I got used to the color coding in scatterbrain, and have read about neat features in other apps including folders and subfolders and being able to color them... so I want that. BUT I don't want to be hounded to try premium nor do I want my notes stored online (except for as part of the normal all over phone backup ) or to have an account. I just want a simple note taking app where you can color code (and CHANGE the color) the notes.
Please be aware of the following:
* I've done searches and looked at top 10 items so I'm not looking to be redirected to that... I'm looking for people who HAVE the app they are recommending and know what it does and does not do.
* In case it matters - because of the "third party" title I want to be clear I will only download apps from the app store.
* There must be a free version. I may upgrade later - but I don't want to download 5 $1 apps to try and then hate them.
* I admit it - I'm picky - I tend to want things that don't exist. Don't shoot me. Hopefully there will be something close.
* I don't care about adding pictures or recording those are bonuses.
Ok I wrote this list up in Word earlier so here goes:
Should be available for free version:
* Color coded “notebooks”/Folders. With maybe color coded tabs/subfolders.
* At least 4 (but 6 would be better- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
* Able to change the color of a notebook/tab/note. (Depending on how many layers the app has)
* NOT like super notes that shows little pins and notes and you can change the category name – but that’s not really assigning a color to a note – just a category that happens to be colored.
* does NOT require a sign in/account to be made.
* Stores data on the phone itself by default NOT online – UNLESS user specifies.
* works like a notepad. (Just in case – expect all note apps to do this). With scatterbrain I could highlight part of the note – just like if it were a chat box, and it would give the option to copy, paste, cut. Select copy – then go into another app (or chat box) and select paste. Nothing should be stored as a picture. Things should be easy to edit.
* Allows limited folders/notebooks, but unlimited notes in free version. (one review on an app said it only allowed two notes b4 it said you had to upgrade!)
* Though I don’t want it to go online, the data should be part of the normal icloud backup used with the phone itself – so that the info can be restored (just like contacts or photos) if the phone is lost, dies or needs to be restored. (one app had a review lost all their notes when it restored. )
* Perfer some indication the note was actually saved. (silly I know but I’d like to hit save rather than assume… I could do that with scatterbrain. That and if I decide I Don’t want to make a change afterall I should have the option to cancel. )
* Going into the note means you can edit it as well as read it. (an “edit” button would be for deletion, changing the color etc.)
Pro version should:
* Be only a onetime fee of 5 or less. I’m not looking for a word processer or a share to drive so why should I pay for that? Really looking for a simple app with color. (Half the stuff above should be standard for all note apps… kinda like a “duh”. )
* Allow unlimited folders/subfolders (well up to the memory on your phone….)
* Have more colors! (maybe) can they do custom palettes on the phone yet? (kinda like word?)
Or at least the square of colors you see typical with word docs. (light blue, light red, lavender etc.)
* allow passcode – for individual notebooks and/or notes – not just one for the entire app.
Note - if onenote has a offline only version that doesn't require an account and/or sign in - please let me know. Not going to waste my time with it otherwise.
Thanks much!
