Hi all,

My wife has an iPad Air and and iPhone - not sure which models off the top of my head, and she's become so fed up with and baffled by the whole iCloud business that it looks like the way forward for her would be to get a laptop of some sort so she can back them up, offload the photos and videos, and get them under control so there's no danger of accidentally losing everything if she clicks the wrong thing. My thinking is a used MBA or possibly a MBP, used, as we don't want to spend silly money on it. It'll also be used for some web browsing, messaging and writing, and possible light photo editing.
Anyone have any thoughts on which models are worthwhile, and which ones to avoid? I'm thinking 8Mb ram and 128Gb SSD should be OK, everything else up for grabs!
Thanks in advance.

While 128GB could more than satisfy your data requirements, the 256GB SSD write speed is quite a bit faster, making the 256GB option something to think about. 8GB of RAM should be fine for most usage. I'm a pro iOS developer and just bought a new 2019 MBA 8GB/256GB for quick coding and travel. I have an iMac Pro decked out unit for heavy lifting though. Best Buy just had a $200 off sale on 2019 MBA, and they likely will have the same or better deal on Black Friday.

Make peace with cloud storage. iCloud and Google Drive can be your friend and you should still use local backups. Always. TimeMachine and clone plus data.

All my photos and documents are stored on Apple and Google along with locally.

Thinking of a NAS router attached drive?
