I'm running OS X 10.4 xserve and when i type in http://localhost it gives me an error saying it cannot connect to the server. This is preventing me from setting up phpmyadmin. Where do i start looking? Any help would be appreciated.

You need to add a port number to your string

Not always. If you leave the port number off it defaults to port 80. For example one does need a port number to access www.macrumors.com. If you type just http://localhoast you should expect to see the main web page hosted on your own server. If you don't see that something is wrong with the server. What is wrong we can't tell with so little information. The simplest thing that could be wrong is that there is no web server running.

Well Apache is running, in fact i've assigned an external IP and can esily access the default home page from the web. I just cant access it from the machine itself using http://localhost.

At this point i'm willing to have an expert remote in and have a look around.
