Needs:

landscape mode capability
small-ish form factor
decent sound
price tag b/w $100 and $200

Seems that there are not a lot of alternatives currently on the market.

AL Octiv Stage MP450:

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/re...v-stage-mp450-speaker-charging-dock-for-ipad/

may be alright, but looks crappy and reviews suggest it is a bit flimsy. i have personally found most Altec Lansing products to be underwhelming (to but it mildly). it is also a product released for the iPad, not the iPad2, though both work with it.

so even though it meets my needs, $150 is an awful lot of $$ to drop on a product i'm not convinced is good. of the very few other options i've encountered nothing seems quite right....there's a great JBL product out there, but it does not allow landscape.

most of my search yields a litany of phoney sites recycling the same 3 product reviews....

looking for anyone who has a suggestion/link/comment on the matter.

Thanks in advance.

I guess I should clarify that by "decent sound" i actually mean "good sound", but it's all relative....obviously i'm not looking for home theater caliber sound here.

Ipad 2 speaker

I've been looking for something similar as well and came across these new products from Acoustic Research: http://www.acoustic-research.com/whatshot/

The website specifically mentions that they are compatible with the iPad 2. I particularly like the units that have the motorized rotating arm to switch from portrait to landscape. Amazon and a few other retailers carry the ARS35i for $129.99. Don't know if any of the other models are available for purchase yet.

Here's a decent list...

...of iPad speaker dock solutions. The article is dated March 16th, 2011, so it's after the iPad2 release but way before devices designed for the iPad2 were available (especially since they are only just now beginning to pop up)...but it's worth looking at nonetheless:

the AR and iSound solutions suggested in this thread are both decent options as well....but i am still searching for the perfect one! The ARS35i may be leading the pack for the moment....
