My kid is working from, home due to Pandemic, and needs to add an external monitor to her 12” MacBook. i think the MacBook 12” only had one port, a USB-C port. So what do I need to drive a Dell USB-C monitor, and power the laptop at the same time. Can I assume the laptop’s camera will also work while the laptop is open and driving the external monitor?

Thanks in advance during these hard times. Keep safe!

Most Dell displays have more than one connection. You'd probably find it easiest to use an HDMI cable to the monitor and use something like Apple's Digital AV adapter, which has HDMI, USB, and a passthrough USB-C power port. The HDMI port will output a maximum of 1080p resolution at 60Hz or 4k resolution at 30Hz.

Dell 24 USB-C Monitor – P2419HC. It does have an HDMI port. I sent along a Hyper-Drive adapter, and an Apple adapter. I'm hoping USB-C to USB C cable will work. Otherwise, I'll have to come up with an HDMI cable. Thanks for the help.
