Hey guys, I'm looking to add an additional SSD HD boot up HD on my late 2014 iMac Retina 5K. The current drive is an SSD drive running old OS Sierra in order to retain the use of older software. The new external SSD drive would be for use with the latest OS. What 2-TB SSD drive do you guys recommend?

I'm not an expert on the various drives available but since you haven't had any other suggestions, I'll offer what I know.

I purchased a 1 TB Samsung T7 portable SSD for my late 2014 iMac 27" a few months ago. It is also available in 2 TB size and the pricing on Amazon right now looks very good. My own decision was influenced by discussions here on these forums and recommendations from others who have used these drives in the past.

Samsung T7. It's on sale. If you find a T5 for less, buy one of those. You'll get more or less the same speeds on your system due to the system's USB 5.0 Gbps protocol acting as a bottleneck.

If you want even cheaper, Crucial MX500. You can use a super cheap enclosure but you will get better performance using one with a slightly better chipset. After factoring this in, it's not much less than the T7.
