I got a Mac Mini that I use with Plex for a HTPC.
I'm looking for an affordable external Blu-ray drive that works with Macs.

I know Mac OSX doesn't playback Blu-ray right now.
Basically I want to be able to back-up my brother's Blu-ray's so I can watch them on Plex and he can have a backup, too.

Just looking for some good suggestions on affordable external drives.
(Must be able to burn at least DVD, CD, or BD)
Slim and/or matching the Mini, would be a plus though.

Thanks.

It would be awesome to get the FastMac internal Blu-ray drive.
Ah, to dream.

That was no help.
The original poster didn't know what he was doing and it was an old thread, so the ones he mentioned aren't helpful. And the ones that were mentioned in the later part of 2009 were internal and the external LaCie.

Thanks though.

The point is, if you search, you'll find all the threads that talk about Blu-ray. Whether you find exactly what you're looking for or not is another issue.

i, too, have been looking for a nice external BR drive..

any other suggestions?

i wouldn't mind scoring a cheap internal and tossing it in an enclosure either :)

looking to spend between $100-200 bones

The $149 from FastMac is the best deal I've seen so far.

But how hard is putting an internal in an external closure? I can't imagine too hard. I think I saw an internal for $100 then an enclosure would have to be $40 to be a halfway decent deal compared to the already made FastMac.
