Looking for Bag for DSLR and iPad

I'm looking for any recommendations for a messenger style bag for my Nikon D90 and iPad.

I would have:

Nikon D90 w/ 50mm Prime Lens
SB600 Flash
Nikon 18-200 Lens
iPad
a few accessories

I've looked around and seen a few options, but I'm curious if anyone has any real-life experience with a similar system. I currently have a Crumpler Part and Parcel that it can all fit in (along with my MacBook Pro) but I would like something a little smaller and lighter.

Any suggestions?
 
Thanks, I have looked at the Lowepro Classified series, but I'm hoping for something with a little more of a "cool" factor. The Lowepro bags are the best as far as functionality, for sure, but they're kinda bland.
 
I'm looking for something myself...preferably a place to buy it in NYC. I have a friend coming next week and we're taking the iPads and DSLRs out for some shooting and would like some bags -- ones that don't advertise we have $2500 in equipment on our backs or sides...
 
I have a Tamrac Velocity series bag. They come in different sizes and I either have the largest or next to largest. The bag holds two bodies with lenses and a spare lens. There is a zipper pcoket on the back that the IPad fits in perfectly.

The beauty of the bag is that it serves as a back pack when you are walking around but will swing around to the front of your body and top loads for easy access when you want to access the interior.

Chris, I have similar gear as you and I use a Kata bag. They are pricey but they are very well built and I've had mine for 3 year and I don't plan on changing it. I've used it with my 13" macbook and all the gear on trips out of the country and it's worked great.

Oops, just read you wanted "messenger type". still take a look at Kata bags, they are very well built.

Have to agree. I have a crumpler 6million dollar home and it fits my xsi with kit lens, 55-250, 50 1.8, flash and I could fit the iPad in fine. The 7million dollar home would make the fit easier, but I wanted the smaller bag
 
Scratch that. saw in your op that you had a similar sized bag. Note with a smaller bag than your crumpler you really won't be able to fit that much camera gear unless you are stuffing it
I personally got a timbuk2 small + tenba insert.
 
Tomorrow I am going to an event where I will be shooting some "grip-and-grins" and as I was pulling together my kit I got out the Think Tank Urban Disguise and realized that I can easily tuck my iPad in, too. I am in another room right now and too lazy to go back and look but I think it is the UD 60 model, which has a separate section for a laptop. I slipped the 13" InCase sleeve I have for the MacBook Air in there and that will provide additional protection for the iPad, which will be in her Apple iPad case as well.

I have various bags for various shooting situations, depending upon the number of lenses needed, etc. Tomorrow it will just be the D3, a couple of lenses and the SB 800 along with extra battery, memory cards etc.

I have your exact Nikon kit and use a Kata Sensitivity V backpack. It holds more than what you have and also consumes my MBAir; which I no longer have use for. The pack is very slim on the back and feels very secure. Check Kata's webbie for the Sensitivity V. Unfortunately it isn't a messenger.
 
I've had incredible luck with a messenger bag from Tenba:

It has an insert for everything regarding the camera, plus the top zipper allows you quick access to the camera gear and also your iPad, which would slide in the padded section in the back.

I carry my iPad, Nikon D80, a couple of lenses and several filters quite often in this bag without issue. I really like the top-access panel.

As an added bonus of sorts, you can take the camera insert out (without even having to remove your camera gear from it) and it doubles as a nice looking regular messenger bag that doesn't scream "STEAL ME AND THE STUFF THAT'S INSIDE OF ME". They have a variety of colors, too.

Give it a look, they even have videos on the Web site. I picked mine up at B&H Photo in NYC.

Portare Bag

I have bought this amazing light weight, good looking and very safe (it doesn't scream like I'm a camera bag) bag called Portare. I fit 4 lenses, my ipad or my 15" laptop, wallet, tripod and flash in it. The cover rain is the best feature ever. I went to Niagara Falls three months ago and it really protected my entire bag. Timbuk2 has a messenger bag that would fit a camera and iPad. Two sizes to accommodate as much or little camera lenses and accessories.
 
Have you checked out the Ari Marcopoulos signature model from incase? I got one for Christmas and it is VERY nice. It is a big expensive though but if costs don't matter too much, its very stylish and is great for what you are looking for. You can check it out at www.goincase.com.

do you know if the Ari bag would fit a gripped 5d2? im very tempted to get this bag but would suck if i couldnt use a grip
 
"stylish" Options

I wanted something for iPad, 2-3 lenses, body and carry-on stuff, with a little more style.

This is what I've been considering:

$89 from manfrotto, Italian maker of tripods, this one has top access and a spot for a tripod and laptop so I can use it for ipad or laptop for more flexibility


$69.95 from Tamrac, but appealing because it is smaller sized than the Manfrotto one, only holds iPad not laptop, but more pedestrian looking

Also considering:

but at $199 it seems like a lot to pay for a bag that isn't real leather
 
Personally I would not be caught dead anywhere outside without my Canon backpack. I can hold a tripod if I like, and a few lenses, a laptop, and anything else I want in it. Straps are comfy and it lives up to Canon standards of quality. These are not photos of mine, I am too lazy and it is my day off. I know it isn't a messenger style bag, but this is what I like. : )
