Hey, I'm looking for an app for my macbook that will be like a diary/journal. I'd like for this app to be password protected and an option for tags or searching. I like things with lots of features but those are really what I'm looking for.

Any ideas?

Has a search function, can be password protected, allows Markdown formatting, can sync via Dropbox or iCloud to the iOS app; tags/categories are listed as coming soon.

I second the recommendation for DayOne. I have it on my Mac, iPhone and iPad. Very clean interface, easy to quickly post something.

I use Chronories mainly. It collects some data by itself (or not, you can set up what you want it to do), has tagging, etc.

I use MacJournal off and on.

I have used MacJournal (no more) and Tinderbox (really like it, but couldn’t harness the power).

I am using Notebook. I like it.
