I'm looking to record some 45-minute lectures for my students outdoors on a digital camera recorder--something that can be tripod mounted. (I don't own an iPhone, so I can't use an iPhone as a camera). I've used iMovie a little, so I need a product that works well with that, but it doesn't need to be super-high quality.
Ideally, something that I could set up and record directly to my laptop's hard-drive if I put my laptop on a covered park bench or on the hood of my car would be cool. Ideally, water-resistant would also be nice. (It is outdoors, and something that films well with outdoor lighting conditions.

Do the Mac power-users out there have any suggestions on cameras, products, or mounts? Any tips on best practices on how to do this?

I don’t have particular advice but I do see that digital handicams are at nearly giveaway prices, so you should not have to spend much on a second hand rig. I know Sony devices works ok with iMovie.

Thank you. I'll check out some Sony models.
