Can anyone recommend any good talk radio stations in the US? Even better if it's an NYC one. Looking for something similar to Radio BBC London where topics of discussion is very varied with a focus on that particular region.

Thanks.

Just try to find your local NPR station.

Here you go: WNYC 93.9

We listen to our local one (89.3 KPCC) every morning when we wake up, and it's what we listen to when we go to sleep. In fact, they play BBC Radio after 11pm on weekdays.

It stands for National Public Radio.

Also, if you have an iOS device, I'd recommend downloading the TuneIn Radio app. There are something like over 40,000 radio stations to choose from. It's pretty awesome. I use it to listen to a couple of stations from Canada.

iHeartRadio is another good app. You can search by genre, city, or several other categories.

Yep, I use TuneIn all the time. Seriously great app.

Yes I was having a go. I think Dr. Laura is a hypocritical hack.
NPR is my fav, BBC news next.

Ignore the above suggestions - they're just having you on (I hope!!) ;)

Big support for NPR.

"Excellent talk radio" has become an oxymoron.:D

If Ira Glass (Host/Creator of This American Life) listens to Stern non-stop, perhaps he is worth a listen?

770AM WABC: Rush Limbaugh 12PM - 3PM and Sean Hannity 3PM - 6PM.

710AM WOR: Michael Savage 6PM - 8PM

Apparently 710AM dropped Glenn Beck and I cannot find anyone else in New York that carries him.

Also everywhere you go in the US you will find a different set of radio stations. Ones that are throughout much of the country will be on different frequencies in different regions.

He said excellent talk radio, not racist right wing blowhards who have their head shoved firmly up their ass.

Because Ira Glass gives Stern a thumbs up does not change my opinion of Stern. Having listened to him on several occasions (not by choice - others had his show on in a situation I could not quickly escape) I found his show appalling.

That is not to suggest that others shouldn't listen, although, frankly, I wish they wouldn't so the grossly overpaid blowhard would lose his audience.

Then again, that's just my taste, millions disagree. ;) :D

Just to clarify, these are only excellent talk radio if you enjoy listening to racist fear mongering insane people talking.

CBC, over the 'net. Even the NPR pulls some it's content from the CBC. Radio One for talk. Radio Two for music (Canadian, Opera, Classical) CBC Three for modern music.

Each city has it's own local morning and evening segments, and then goes national for most of the day and evening. Often the noon hour or two is provincial arts and public interest.

The Current - - Great Stuff!
As It Happens - - Great Stuff!
Quirks and Quarks - - Good Stuff!
Michael Enright's Sunday morning show.... Good Stuff!
Tapestry (on the weekend) - Usually Good Stuff!

If you like Rock and Roll Guitar music you absolutely have to listen to Randy's Vinyl Tap, Saturday's at 7pm on R1, Sunday at 6pm or 7pm (I forget) on R2, and Friday's at 11pm. Give it a couple of episodes. Each show can be very different from any other show.... so if you get a show that doesn't appeal, way a couple weeks and try again. It will be different.

Forget Stern, et al.... CBC is for listeners who like to think for themselves, not be told what is wrong with the world.

What proof do you have of them being racist? I have not heard anything racist from them.

They do get to be rather sensationalist but this is true of any political show. But they do tell the truth.

Honestly it's been too long since I've listened to them to remember any specific examples. But unless they've greatly changed over the past couple years listen for about 2 minutes and you'll hear something racist, probably about middle easterners.
