In a van down by the river
I am looking for a good external blu ray player / burner that I can hook up to my late 2016 13" tMBP. Anyone know of any good ones that will work with the new Macs? I have a lot of DVD's and Blu Rays I want to add my to iTunes Library for AppleTV viewing.

I'd suggest this one:

I have a slightly earlier version (mine didn't come with M-disc support as do the new ones), and it's never failed to produce readable discs. Note: I've only burned CD's and DVD's, haven't burned bluray discs yet.

It also requires only a single USB cable to the Mac. Some external burners need a "y-cable" (1 port on the burner end, 2 ports on the Mac end) to pull enough power, but this one does fine with just one.

I probably paid too much I guess but I liked that this had a metal finish and form factor that would go well with the mbp. It would probably go better with a silver than a SG (which I have) but I like it. I ended up getting a usb C to usb B micro cable and it works great with my laptop. I've been loading music to it for the past couple days and it's been nice. Haven't used it for blu ray stuff yet just mainly CD's so far but I really like it so far.
