ok new to apple and need to find some burning software or freeware . Also the software that gives you the specs of your battery and one that tells you about the wi-fi signal if it is strong or weak . And any other free stuff that I should have for the mac..thanks

I think I posted on your other thread... but as a student I pretty much only get freeware. Here's what's stood the test of time for me:

iStat menus
Adium chat client
Caffeine to keep my screen on for youtube, etc
Bowtie iTunes controller
Firefox
EverSave, which does a timer-based autosave on all open documents
VideoMonkey video converter
Paintbrush (like MS Paint)

There's lots of sites out there that will give recommendations, but I've always found my favorites here on macforums from other users.
