hi,

i have accidentally erased my external hard drive with disk utility, but since this happened, nothing has been written onto it. there were two partitions and i wanted to delete one of them, my backup partition, but clicked on the wrong icon in the left bar and so i erased both.

the big problem is: the backup partition was very bloated (300+ GB) and i really don't need all that data. all i want is in the other partition.

i know that there are many recovery tools out there, but is there any chance that i can recover the hard drive while maintaining the old file structure?

i tried data rescue 3, which finds a load of data on the hard drive sorted by file type, but it would take me months or even years to find out what i need and what i don't :(

thanks a lot in advance!
