i've ordered 2 cases with clips and figured out quickly that they are not my thing. (i'm going to go back and forth with a regular case and a zagg covers keyboard so i want the ease of taking the ipad out and in - the moko was a horror show ...clips like claws; have the speck but find it a bit difficult to pull in and out AND the stand isn't very table in viewing mode...there are grooves to put in in but they don't hold it well and it slips out.).

i like the kavaj - especially the very small frame around it (don't like the bulky fat frames some have) but hoping to find one like it with a) different color than black or brown (will consider fake leather); and b) a better viewing stand capability. lightweight is a big consideration also.

help me clothe my very naked new ipad air! i swear i've looked at every case out there but my head is swimming with options. my first post here - and hope to help out once i'm up to speed on my new purchase.

thanks!!!

thanks. but it's a 'clip case' not a slide-in case so that's not what i'm looking for.

Maybe my understanding of "clip" is a little different than yours, but the Apple Smart Case does not have any "clips". The iPad does not snap into the case like it would in a hard shell back/case.

Ok. Not clips or snap-in. I'm hoping for a slide-in small frame around the face case.

hmmm... i just discovered the kavaj hamburg - which is exactly what i want except for the color (which i could deal with ...tho ...yawn...another black case (don't like the cognac color) BUT BUT BUT it appears to be out of stock completely and amazon seems to be their only us vendor.

I haven't come across any slide in cases that have a smaller frame around the bezel than the Kavaj. Maybe you can consider something like this: http://www.senacases.com/apple/ipad-mini-retina/vettra/# which only has half a frame, or go without a frame all together with a case like this: http://www.case-mate.com/iPad-Mini-Cases/Case-Mate-iPad-Mini-Tuxedo-Cases.asp#.

What about Yoobao? They come in many colors and very lightweight. Great feel for the iPad. Check them out on Amazon.

thanks. i have them as a backup - waiting to hear from kavaj (liking the hamburg because of it's multiple angles) - but a good amount of the reviews on amazon are negative about the workmanship. it doesn't have to be perfect for me but i like it to look like it was made well.

Personally, I like the Kavaj better than the a Yoobao. But between my husband and I, we have 4 of them and all have either come with defects or had problems with the thread coming undone. If the thread problems didn't happen, the Kavaj Berlin would have been my final case purchase.

Yeah Kavaj makes nice cases but their quality control needs to be tighten up. The 2 main issues are scratches/scuffs on the leather and the threads being loose and unraveling themselves.

Haven't had any thread problems on a Kavaj yet, have 3 Hamburgs and a Berlin. Love the color (cognac, great leather quality). Hamburg is by far the most useful for me with the stand angles. Berlin is ok if you don't want to stand it up. It's too awkward with Berlin, but it's slimmer so weigh that. I will say that if you are thinking to slide this out all the time - it's a tight fit and the velcro makes it harder. I've tried to whip it out several times to show people the naked iPad and it's always an awkward silence while I struggle with it.

First Hamburg was great except the cutouts didn't line up quite right, esp headphone jack. They sent me one free of charge, no questions asked and let me keep original. Their customer service is pretty top-notch. They actually called me from Germany before I ever complained just to see how I liked the cases.

I did hear that black Hamburg wouldn't be in stock till around late Jan/early Feb. Also, the frame on the bottom barely contacts the home button and while it doesn't impede operation it can be a little irritating. What's more cumbersome though is that the frame of the case on the bottom makes it difficult to recognize the upward swipe for the control center. Maybe just my fat fingers.

ok...let me approach this differently then:

if you wanted 2 cases...one to just have the ipad air in - for viewing and typing with lightness and ease of taking in and out - and then a keyboard - either folio or non-folio ..what would be your best combo?

So I'm ending up with a moko slim folding case with a frame and it works great and easy in/easy out with magnet support. And I'll probably. Buy the Logitech keyboard and a felt sleeve for that combo. Returning the zagg cover keys because I have a screen saver on it.

Do you need a hand with socks and undies too? :)
