I'd been using Perian for the longest time, mainly for .avi support.

I finally let it go because of various incompatibilities with Yosemite, only to realize just how many .avi files I'd accumulated. For some reason, the video plays just fine but I don't get any audio (even when the format the Inspector gives is just MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 44.100 kHz).

I've tried the usual alternates: VLC, MPLayerX, as well as the Flip4Mac WMV pref pane (because it has the "Open AVI Files" setting, which may be why I can play the video but not the audio). QTP 7 works better than v. 10--neither plays audio, but the latter takes a LONG time to first convert the file, though again this might be Flip4Mac at work.

However, the apps I've tried lack the one major feature I like in QuickTime Player: the ability to have more than one movie file open at a time--that is, multiple windows.

Are there any players that will give me this--i.e. the ability to have more than one avi, each in its own window, at the same time?

I know I can convert the avi's to other formats and I've done that for a bunch, but that's a big PITA for the scores of files I have, not to mention those times when it SEEMS to have converted just fine, only to find out that there are problems with the conversion once the original is deleted.

Edit: I've tried Niceplayer. Multiwindow, but same no-audio problem. MPlayerX and VLC have no trouble with the audio.
