Here's my problem. I'm currently running my home network(2 Mac's and 1 pc) via a new Linksys WRT54G router but it is failing badly. All wired connections drop off regularly forceing me to power off the router to get them to reconnect. Wireless is worst with my Macbook unable to connect to it with any type of wireless security enabled and my brother's pc unable to connect without any thing enabled. It's the router that's bad but unfourtunately it's just past the return period for the store I bought it from.

Now the solution. I'm looking at setting up my home network differently since I've been haveing bad luck with routers(this router was a replacement for one that locked up regularly) and have thought about going gigabit. I regularly transfer files over a gig in size from my G4 to my Macbook and could use the bump in transfer speed. I also plan on adding some sort of media system(either a mac mini or iTV depending on features) within the next 6 months and would like to have the extra bandwith in the network to transfer media files. I'm thinking of putting in a gigabit switch, but I'm unsure of how to implament such a solution. How would I tie my high-speed internet service into the network without the router?(I want to take this damn router completely out of the system) Would I run it through the G4 first in some sort of server setup? Also, how would I add wireless access to the network down the road? I don't need wireless at the moment, I connect my Macbook to the internet via wired 90+% of the time.

Any ideas or equipment recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks
