I have been searching for so long for an answer to this issue. I forget which update to OSX it was but they changed the way preview works. Now if you shrink an image to its smallest size there are large areas of empty space on each side of the image. It didn't used to be like this, the image would stop getting smaller but there wouldn't be massive grey areas. I am a digital artist and I put a bunch of images up on my second monitor for reference but there is so much wasted space in these grey areas that could be filled with more reference. Another major annoyance is that you can only open 15 images before each following image gets lumped into a scrolling window. Does anyone know how to either change this, or can recommend a better program?
Here is an example of how it looks in action. You can see all of the grey space that I can't get rid of. The grey space only gets bigger until the image wont shrink anymore.
