I'm looking to set up a critter-cam and am trying to find the best webcam for it.

It won't be attached to a computer, so it has to have wifi so it can operate independently.

I'd rather it not be dependent on a company's website for web streaming--I had a D-Link webcam a few years back and the mydlink site was always flaky, and I don't want to rely on a company maintaining the site. The webcam would be for live streaming, so i don't really care about being able to record and store the stream, so cloud storage isn't needed. I do have a static IP (via no-ip.org).

Most importantly, I want it viewable via a browser on OS X, or at least an OS X app. I have a Wyze cam, but I rarely ever use it because I've found that when I monitor a camera, I mostly do so via my Mac, not my iPhone. In contrast, I have an Amcrest security DVR, easily accessed by their OS X app or browser plugin (the latter, unfortunately, now only works with FireFox, since the newer browsers have dropped plugin support). I have an old copy of Security Spy, and I could update that as a way of accessing the camera.

If it has night vision, I would need that capability to be kept off rather than go on automatically. Since it's a critter-cam and focused on a glass tank, the night vision LED will simply bounce off the glass and be less than useless. If I want a night view I'd need a separate IR source.

I was able to set up an old iPhone 4S as a remote monitor, but only got it accessible via the LAN before I discovered that keeping it plugged in and awake with the camera running made it worrisomely warm, so I decided it would be prudent not to go that way.

Any ideas?
